The Name

Webster's defines Privateer as a ship privately owned and manned but authorized to attack enemy vessels. The racing world defines Privateers as racers not sponsored by a major team or equipment manufacturer. Privateers compete for fame and fortune. They purchase their equipment through purse money or day jobs. Privateer racers freely roam the racing circuits reaping the precious metals and prize money before the organized teams can explain the loss to their sponsors. Privateers are free to choose the best equipment. They race and ride what works, not what the sponsors dictate in hopes of selling to the masses.

About Privateer

Most racers and riding enthusiast prefer to specify the frame and components on their bicycles. Starting with the frame all the way to the handlebar shape and tape. The result is a high performance individualized bicycle. Privateer builds the finest custom bicycles available. You know you have a true piece of machinery when all the components were selected with a specific end use in mind.

The frame is the foundation of every bicycle build up, it must be light and rigid to insure that each stroke of the pedal propels you foreword without energy robbing flex. It must be sized to your body and have steering and seat tube geometry matched to your riding style. We meticulously assemble and create a true machine from your choice of components. This time you will get it right, your dream bike, not another cookie cutter frame with the same old parts group package.

Privateer builds frames one at a time, from the highest quality titanium, steel and aluminum tube sets available. Every tube joint is precision machined for a perfect no gap fit and are held in heavy duty weld fixtures to maintain frame straightness and geometry during the welding process. We use state of the art tig welding equipment and keep abreast of the latest in welding metallurgy as active members of the American Welding Society. We also have a full machine shop to support the frame building process.
